In this blog<\/span> I will publish<\/span> articles that explain<\/span> the<\/span> individual functions<\/span> of the apps<\/span> in more Detail<\/span>.<\/p>\n

My name is Theo Pitsch. I come from<\/span> Germany<\/span>, but<\/span> live<\/span> permanently<\/span> in Thailand<\/span> since 2006<\/span>. In<\/span> past lives<\/span> I was<\/span> an electronics<\/span> developer and programmer<\/span>. Actually, I had<\/span> finished<\/span> with my<\/span> previous jobs<\/span> and<\/span> never wanted to<\/span> do programming again<\/span>. That changed<\/span>, however, when amazingly powerful<\/span> computer<\/span> for everyone came<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> on<\/span> the market with the<\/span> first smartphones<\/span>.<\/p>\n

If I<\/span> had<\/span> worked<\/span> previously<\/span> with heart and soul<\/span>\u00a0on<\/span> my online<\/span> dictionary,\u00a0now the time\u00a0had come<\/span>\u00a0to make\u00a0it<\/span> available<\/span> as an app.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because I<\/span> had<\/span> no experience<\/span> in mobile<\/span> programming<\/span>, I delegated the job to external<\/span> programmers <\/span>to<\/span> make the<\/span> first developments<\/span> for Windows Mobile<\/span> (2007<\/span>),\u00a0 Symbian (2008), Apple iOS<\/span> (2009) and<\/span> Android<\/span> (2011).<\/span> Then I<\/span> had a look at<\/span> the<\/span> source code and<\/span> incorporated<\/span> minor changes<\/span> here and there.<\/span> Because that<\/span> worked so well<\/span>, I was tempted<\/span> to go deeper<\/span> into the matter<\/span>. In 2010 Windows Mobile<\/span>\u00a0and Symbian<\/span>\u00a0were<\/span>\u00a0no longer<\/span>\u00a0of great importance.<\/span> I then<\/span> worked<\/span> intensively with<\/span> the iOS<\/span> Programming<\/span> and<\/span> was able to publish <\/span>the second<\/span> version<\/span> of the dictionary app\u00a0by myself<\/span>. Later<\/span>,<\/span> I<\/span>\u00a0did<\/span> the programming for the vocabulary trainer and<\/span> the reading trainer<\/span>\u00a0completely from scratch<\/span>. 2012, I<\/span> have also taken<\/span> the<\/span> Android<\/span> programming, and<\/span> brought out<\/span> the vocabulary trainer<\/span> for this operating system<\/span>. Following incorporation<\/span> in<\/span> these two very different<\/span> systems<\/span> I have<\/span> familiarized myself<\/span> in<\/span> 2014 with<\/span> Windows Phone<\/span>\u00a0as<\/span> another<\/span>, again<\/span> quite different<\/span> structured system<\/span>. At the end of<\/span> that year the dictionary<\/span> was done<\/span> not only<\/span> for Windows Phone<\/span> 8.1,<\/span> but also for the<\/span> desktop<\/span> Windows<\/span> 8.1.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile<\/span>\u00a0 the<\/span> care<\/span> of the apps<\/span> and<\/span> the dictionary<\/span> data stock<\/span> happened to be <\/span>a<\/span> full-time<\/span> employment.<\/span> And there<\/span> is still<\/span> no end in sight<\/span>. Some of the<\/span> new features<\/span> in the dictionary<\/span> are<\/span> already <\/span>visible now<\/span>. Sometimes only a few<\/span> items<\/span> to<\/span> test the<\/span> feasibility<\/span> (<\/span>manual sorting of search results<\/span>, example sentences, etc.) are included. However, in order<\/span> to extend it to<\/span> all the entries<\/span>, I will still<\/span> take a while<\/span>.<\/p>\n
